Designing an intuitive and engaging user interface that motivates individuals to participate in environmental cleanups posed several challenges:
User Engagement:
Encouraging consistent user participation in cleanup activities.
Gamification Balance:
Integrating game-like elements without overshadowing the app's core mission.
Community Building:
Facilitating team formations and global competitions to enhance user interaction.
Reward System:
Creating a seamless process for users to earn and redeem Planet Coins for tangible rewards.
To address these challenges, the following design strategies were implemented:
Intuitive Onboarding:
A step-by-step guide introduces users to the app's features, ensuring a smooth start.
Real-Time Impact Tracking:
Visual dashboards display the amount of trash collected, fostering a sense of accomplishment.
Gamified Elements:
Leaderboards, achievement badges, and streaks incentivize regular participation.
Team Collaboration:
Features allowing users to form or join teams, set collective goals, and participate in global challenges.
Reward Redemption:
An in-app shop where users can exchange Planet Coins for gift cards and exclusive offers from partner brands.
The redesigned Planet Matters app achieved significant milestones:
User Adoption:
Over 460 downloads with a growing user base in Austria and Germany.
Positive Feedback:
Users praised the app's concept and design, highlighting its motivational aspects.
Increased Engagement:
The gamified approach led to higher user retention and more frequent cleanup activities.
Community Growth:
Formation of multiple teams participating in global cleanup challenges, enhancing the app's reach and impact.
